About the role:

We are looking for highly capable and decisive Aviation Security Duty Shift Managers to lead and coordinate aviation security operations during assigned shifts.
This new role is critical to ensuring compliance with all aviation security regulations, protecting passengers, staff, and airport infrastructure, and maintaining a secure and efficient operational environment.
As the Aviation Security Manager on shift, you will be responsible for managing real-time aviation security operations, leading a team of aviation security personnel, responding to incidents, and acting as the key liaison with government agencies, law enforcement, and airline partners.
The role operates on a 24/7 rotating roster Monday to Sunday, working 12-hour shifts on a 4:4 pattern, with flexibility to work additional hours (overtime) as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure adequate resources are deployed (staff, equipment and consumables), including coordinating rostering changes and redeploying resources as needed to maintain optimal coverage and response
- Supervise all relevant staff on duty, overseeing presentation and performance and proactively addressing performance improvement and corrective actions
- Manage the delivery of aviation security operations, and procedures across access control points, perimeter security, other sensitive areas, and screening checkpoints
- Proactively oversee and audit all elements of Airport security operations to ensure compliant and efficient service delivery
- Prepare and coordinate shift briefings, ensuring all staff are informed of shift priorities, threats and procedural changes
- Prepare and conduct shift briefings and ensure all staff are informed of all matters affecting day to day operations
- Lead, supervise, and support a team of Aviation Security Officers and Team Leaders during the shift
- Provide real-time coaching, mentorship, and performance management for security and screening personnel
- Coordinate the relief of meal breaks for continuous shifts (and provide coverage where necessary to do so, including Airside and AOCC Control Room operations)
- Monitor CCTV systems, alarms, and intelligence systems to identify potential threats or irregularities
- Lead post-incident debriefs and prepare detailed reports and recommendations
- Build strong working relationships with airline security managers, terminal operators, ground handlers, and retail tenants
- Provide timely communication and support to airport stakeholders
- Ensure full compliance with all relevant aviation security legislation, including the Aviation Transport Security Act, Regulations, and Airport Plans and SOPs
- Respond to and co-ordinate response to security and operational incidents including liaison with NSW Police, ABF, Aviation Safety, and emergency services during escalated incidents
- Transport Security Programs, and relevant risk management frameworks
- Manage and maintain all security reporting, logs, and escalation documentation to audit standards
- Support inspections, audits, and investigations conducted by regulatory bodies or internal compliance teams.
Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in Aviation Security, including frontline supervisory or managerial roles
- In-depth knowledge of aviation security regulations, protocols, and threat management
- Experience managing shift-based teams in high-pressure, security-sensitive environments
- Strong incident response and investigation skills
- Customer service experience, with excellent customer service and resolution skills
- Ability to interpret legislative frameworks and understand operational documents including operational plans, emergency plans, safety management systems and procedures
- High level observation skills, and attention to detail including sustained focus (vigilance)
- Ability to prioritise tasks, work under pressure and work independently under limited supervision
- Ability to multi-task efficiently, and maintain strong customer service skills
- Impeccable presentation
- Full availability Monday to Sunday day and night shifts.
Qualifications:
- NSW Security License, 1A minimum
- Current Class C Driver licence
- Certificate II in Security Operations
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Fire Warden and Chief Fire Warden, or willingness to obtain (paid training)
- Certificate III in Security Operations, Control Room Skillset, or willingness to obtain (paid training)
- Successful medical assessments, drug and alcohol screening, and national police checks (paid pre-employment checks)
- Security clearance (desirable) or ability to obtain (clearances paid)
- Willingness to undertake additional Certificate II qualifications including Advanced First Aid and required courses (paid training)
- Strong leadership and team coordination skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- High level of attention to detail and situational awareness
- Ability to make critical decisions under pressure and in dynamic environments.
